    Description

Up for immediate purchase is a D-Link Smart Plug DSP-W215.  This unit has been updated to firmware version 1.25, the latest as I write. See the screenshots to appreciate special functions of this unit.
This product offers energy monitoring, on/off scheduling, interaction among select MyDlink enabled products without 3rd party middleware, control via IFTTT,  control via Amazon's Alexa service, and control via Google Assistant service (requires linking via IFTTT.)  I use Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and myDlink App to turn this Smart Plug on and off. Windows interfaces via IFTTT.
The unit is a US 120vAC 15A standard three prong unit (with safety ground third pin). The two standard flat pins are the same size meaning common and hot are not identified by the pin shape or size.  The safety ground pin is a frame of reference to identify the polarity of the common and hot pins.
This plug has a hardware design that automatically reboots after source power interruption and fails safe meaning after rebooting from a power failure, the power to the output socket is in the off state. This unit also has a temperature related safety feature.  You set the temperature at which the switch will create a temperature fault and the switch will turn off power to the output socket at or above that threshold temperature.
The Smart Plug status as on or off is reported to the related smartphone application provided the smart plug is booted and network services are fully functioning. Thermal limit is important safety feature. And Watts currently being consumed is useful to evaluate if what's plugged in is working within normal power range. A burned out bulb uses no watts. Relying on the smart plug being on is just a portion of what helps manage remotely.
D-Link App customizes schedule, temperature limit, and priced energy consumption.
