Description

For all antique microscope lovers....for all Zeiss lovers...here is one brought to your attention from 1950s vintage - still operational. It has original Zeiss body, Zeiss eyepieces, Zeiss trinocular head, Zeiss, powerhouse, Zeiss analyzer, etc. with a non-zeiss polarizer, three Zeiss Pol objectives 2.5x pol, 10x pol, 40x pol, and one non-zeiss 100x objective, modern digital camera (3MP) from OMAX, camera software, AND a rare collection of 45 thin sections of rocks (15 each of igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks). The microscope has a central magnification changing ring above the analyzer, which will give more magnifications along with the objective lenses.
It is not a modern infinity-corrected polarizing microscope. But it is ZEISS. Hence after 70 years, it still produces very good images, which can be easily publishable. All parts from light, original light controller, eyepieces, objectives, body, everything works. The objective turret is a bit tight to rotate but you can rotate from one to the next objective without too much pressure. Rotating stage as well as XY stage move smoothly. Since it was not intended for polarizing applications a non-zeiss polarizing filter at the base, in conjunction with an original Zeiss slide in-out analyzer produces beautiful crossed polarized light images, as shown in the photo of thin section of a biotite granite sample.
All sales are final. Return not accepted. Please note this is an antique Zeiss pol microscope, also described as Universal Pol or Zeiss Photomicroscope but not a modern-day high-end polarizing microscope. The unit has received a lot of meticulous care and maintenance in our lab and is ready to go to the next lab that appreciates the value of old Zeiss school of scopes. It will be packaged with enough protection. Computer, Monitor or other items in photos are not included. The digital camera and its software can be used with Windows or Mac platforms.
Update - Three (3) of the non-zeiss objectives are being replaced with three (3) original Zeiss POL objectives 2.5X Pol, 10X Pol, and 40X Pol, which each of which has two objective centering rings for polarized light microscopy. Suddenly the unit costs even more but it still is selling at the original asking price. The last photo shows the 10x Zeiss objective upgrade.
Last but not the least, the microscope will come with forty-five (45) excellent thin sections of rocks, 15 each for igneous, sedimentary, and
metamorphic
rocks which could be an excellent teaching tool in a classroom along with the microscope. The included 45 brand new freshly prepared thin sections cost 00 from our lab, which will be included as a package with the microscope.
